Be prepared to see a lot of these fresh, young faces over the next six months.

The Christmas Party Races at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club (MTC) on Saturday were more than an excuse for businesses to get together after another long working year.

It was where it was announced that Emily Everett, 20, and Brad Graham, 21, were the Faces of the Carnival for Wagga’s 2016 Gold Cup.

“I had a lot of nerves going through me,” Miss Everett, owner of Embrace Beauté, said.

“I’m excited and honoured.”

Mr Graham, a student and trainee accountant, said he was excited and considered this to be a great opportunity.

MTC chief executive officer Scott Sanbrook said the crowd of 1100 people was down on last year.

Bikers ride toward a better Christmas

Wagga erupted with a familiar rumble at the weekend that brought elated children and curious residents out to their front curb for a look.

More than 200 motorbikeriders and passengers took three hours to ride through Wagga for the annual Combined Riders of Wagga Toy Run.

“People were waving and clapping and cheering and carrying on,” committee president Pat Combs said.

“We get a lot of favourable response from the public.

“We get a kick out of the fact there are kids out there who will have a good Christmas.”

The toy run raised $4000 on Saturday from generous donations from the community, including $1000 collected from inmates at the Junee Correctional Centre.

Mr Combs said $15,000 worth of toys was donated to the Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul at this year’s event.

The toy run is organised by members of The Ulysses Club and The Harley Owners Group but is open to anyone with a motorbike and current licence.

The money will be used as a starting point for next year.

Taree songwriter claims top UK title

Creative collaboration: Katie Kardyman and Laura Zarb.”What an amazing end to such a fantastic year” is how Katie Hardyman of Taree described news overnight that she had won the Christmas category of the 2015 UK Songwriting Contest.

The award-winning ballad is called ‘Snowflake’ and it is performed by Laura Zarb.

The Manning River Times spoke to Katie last year about ‘Snowflake’ when it was awarded a second place in the open category of the 2014Australian Songwriting Association’s National Song Writing Contest.

Katie says ‘Snowflake’was inspired by a trip to a snow resort called ‘Les Gets’in France.

She was dazzled by the dancing snowflakes, so much so she asked her instructor to stop the ski lift, just so she could pen some more lyrics. Now the snow resort loves to play the ballad.

Katie is thankful for those who helped to bring ‘Snowflake’ to life.

The artwork was drawn by artist, Monica Markovina. Katie’s producer Pete Stevenson arranged the ballad.Matt Zarb performed wonderful guitar work, which was teamed with Laura Zarb’s gorgeous vocals.

The balladis available for purchase on iTunes.

Residents love a good piano tune

THAT’S A WRAP: I Love A Piano cast members David Payne, Tim Lancaster, Saasha McMillan and front (L) Emma Carmichael and Mel Donges had their final performance at the weekend. Picture: Les SmithThere has been a general consensus about the Wagga School Arts’ final show of the year –“it’s not good, it’s great.”
Nanjing Night Net

The show’s production and marketing manager, Fay Walters, said audience numbers were a little disappointing but she said those who attended were overwhelmingly pleased with the show.

“I thought audience numbers would be 10 per cent more but everyone who walked out the door loved it,” she said.

“It’s a busy time of year and working from Tuesday to Sunday isn’t an ideal season.

“But we feel we had a very successful show.”

Mrs Walters said everyone in the audience was familiar with the music and could be seen singing along during the show.

“The dominating factor is that every person in the audience knows the songs,” she said.

The final performance yesterday afternoon drew the show’s biggest crowd.

Mrs Walters said the Wagga School of Arts will kick off their 2016 season with an exciting performance of The Kids Have Left, The Dog Died, Now What?
